Mission Trip

2023 - We are looking for Youth and Adults ready to plan and implement a Mission Trip! Reach out to the Christian Education Committee if you are interested in participating or taking a leadership role!

FLC Mission Trips of the past:
In the summer of 2008 First Lutheran youth took part in our first-ever Youthworks mission trip. A group of 16 ventured to downtown Minneapolis and did various mission projects in an urban setting that year. In the years since then, our youth have taken part in Youthworks missions trip to St. Paul, MN, and among Native American communities on the Leech Lake Reservation near Cass Lake, MN, and on the Cheyenne River Reservation, in SD.

In 2013 and 2014 we again went to the metropolitan areas of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Kansas City, MO with Youthworks. Additionally we have had local mission opportunities. All of them have been very worth-while experiences for the participants to be the “hands and feet of Christ” alongside other Christian youth.

In 2015 we did a local mission trip. During the summer of 2016 we participated in a Family Mission Trip through Youth Works to Yankton SD.

2017 Youth Works Mission Trip

We are in the process of registering a group from First Lutheran to a Youthworks! Mission trip this coming summer. The site we have scheduled with is St. Paul, Minnesota, close to home, yet a very different context than small town Le Sueur.

We have reserved 15 Youthworks! slots for the week of July 23-28, the week just before GIANT Celebration weekend. We will drive up on Sunday afternoon, July 23, and return on Friday, July 28. The cost will be $272/per person.   The trip will be open to youth who have finished sixth grade up through high school.

2018  Youth went to Houston TX for the This Changes Everything ELCA Youth Gathering!

2019  Youth grades 6 through 12 – A trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) for this August 6-10 is in the planning stages. Arrangements will be made through Wilderness Canoe Base, an ELCA ministry on Seagull Lake at the end of the Gunflint Trail. This trip will be a work service trip. The group will be assigned work service projects at camp, planned evening activities, Bible studies and choose to add some fun activities at the camp. It will be a great week of service and growing in your faith.
