Ministries

The following is a listing of various ministry opportunities at First Lutheran Church. If you would like to become part of any group or would like more information, please contact the church office at 507-665-2615.

 

Hospitality Teams
The Hospitality Teams are under the leadership of the Hospitality Teams Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is divided into three subgroups which oversees events that occur during a four month period plus one annual church event. Every member of the congregation is assigned to a Team. Members may be asked to work or furnish food, supplies, or monetary donations for events such as funerals or recognition events.

 

Music & Worship
First Choir is comprised of singers -- high school age and older -- between Sunday morning services from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday of each month. New voices are always welcome. The First Choir provides leadership and special music at worship service each Sunday.

Joyful Noise Singers is a group of children -- ages 5-10 years -- who rehearse Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. during the school year. The group shares their music during worship service one Sunday a month.

Praise Singers is a group of children -- grades 3-5 -- who rehearse Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. during the school year. The group shares their music during worship service one Sunday a month.

Sonshine Singers is for elementary aged children -- who rehearse on Wednesday evenings during the school year.

MUSIC NEWS....

Jennifer Weick is our First Choir Director.The choir rehearses between Sunday morning services from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday of each month. New voices are always welcome.

 

Outreach Team
The Outreach Team plans and evaluates the outreach mission within the congregation, to those new to the community who may be interested in membership, and the community at large. This is done in a variety of ways such as a Welcome Team delivering goodies to guests who recently attended worship, gathering food for the local food shelf at the community summer celebration, and sponsoring a travel pilgrimage to various locations. The Outreach Team coordinates new member activities, which take place in the fall and spring.

 

Prayer Chain
Individuals in the congregation who are gifted in this ministry keep in prayer those within First Lutheran and the community who are experiencing difficult life issues.

 

Property Oversight Team
This team oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the church building and grounds.

 

Social Ministry
The Social Minstry team meets periodically as projects develop. Recent projects include Halloween and Valentine's Day treat mailings to young people who recently graduated from high school and are away from home - at school, in the military, or working - to remind them they are still supported by their church home.
Christmas love baskets are assembled and delivered shortly before Christmas.
A new project will be assembling extra school supply kits for students at various grade levels who enroll without the needed supplies.
The Social Minstry team also supports the Le Sueur Food Shelf and Treasures in Town thrift store; the prayer chain; and greeting card ministry.


Stewardship Planning Team
Congregation members are encouraged to be good managers of their time, talents, and finances. Throughout the year various emphasis and events are planned to assist members in this awareness.

 

Youth and Christian Education Ministries
The Youth and Christian Education Ministries of First Lutheran oversees the entire education program of the congregation -- from children to adults. They meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
Ongoing responsibilities include cradle roll, nursery, Good News Hour (G.N.H.), Jesus And Me (J.A.M.) Club (a midweek after-school program for elementary students), Growing In God's Grace (G.I.G.G.) (Confirmation), high school youth, adult education and library. Additional projects include high school senior scholarships, teacher recognition, graduation recognition, Vacation Bible School, Rally Sunday celebration, Confirmation Brunch/Sunday, and the youth Christmas Program.
